Thanks to his innings of 118, O’Brien also secured the Man of the Match award on his Test debut, the only thing missing was the result, with Pakistan winning by 5 wickets.
Despite been asked to follow-on, Ireland far from disgraced themselves, and when they had Pakistan at 14/3 in their second innings, the game was slightly in the balance for a small while.
Never-the-less, experience told in the end, and Pakistan managed to get over the line for the victory thanks in the main to a 126 run partnership between Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam.
Pakistan now move onto England, where they start a two match Test series against Joe Root’s side at Lord’s, starting on 24th May.
